I can’t believe it….SPRING is HERE!!!  As I sit her on this glorious April afternoon writing this blog post, my office windows are open and the breeze is blowing in.  It’s amazing how a gorgeous day can set you straight and get you motivated and in such a good mood.  But that happiness is coupled with a little bit of sadness.  I’ve decided that this will be my last blog post.  Last and final.

april fools

Alright, alright.  I’ve never really been good at April Fools jokes.  My husband, on the other hand, that’s another story!  I am excited to share that I was part of the Dreamer Journal’s April issue, alongside some uber talented other lady photogs, writer and artists!  And that, my friend, is no joke!  You can see all of the issue’s fabulousness below. Rabbit, rabbit!

Cancer.  Sucks.

It seems we are all affected in some way now.  Your cousin, your friend, your father, mother, neighbor…that fickle finger of fate poised, ready and waiting.  The word incites so much sadness, worry, pain, and grief but also inspires strength and hope.  People become fighters, pulling from their very core a fierce and fiery will to become survivors.

Meet Jane.  She is as sweet and beautiful as they come.  We met in April 2009 when I photographed her newborn son, Jackson.  A few months later during a family trip to the Canadian Rockies she was experiencing vertigo.  After a trip to the chiropractor with no resolve she visited her primary care doctor who suggested a full body physical.  It was during  this checkup that a large lymph node was discovered.  Her doctor wasn’t alarmed but wanted to do some testing to be sure.  A week later she was called back to the doctor’s office.  As she sat with baby Jackson on her lap she was informed that it was Hodgkins Lymphoma.  “I didn’t think cancer could happen to me, but what I have learned from my journey is that cancer has no boundaries, it can happen to anyone, even young children. From that moment, I realized that Jackson’s role in my life was much greater than a newborn baby. He and Chad (husband) were my inspiration and my rocks – they are what got me through that day and every day after.”

After months of radiation and chemotherapy, in December 2009 her PET scans came back clear!  She had won the fight!! Since then Jane has given back to all those who are still fighting the fight.  As an integral member of the Leadership Team for the Boston Light The Night Walk, she shares the mission of LLS with others and works to recruit new teams and walkers.  Jane is thankful to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and hopes that with their research, there will be a cure for all blood cancers.  Now, lets fast forward a couple of years .  She was given the green light by her doctor to try for baby #2 and in October 2012 they welcomed Cal to their family.  Prior to that momentous  day, I spent a morning with Jackson and Jane getting these gorgeous maternity shots.  Thank you Jane for being YOU, for your light and positivity!

AKP Photography - What a stong beautiful story! And beautiful photos!!

Sweet baby Colin, 4 weeks old, so dear and sweet.  He was surprisingly a sound sleeper even though he was a bit older than most of my newborn babies.  Typically I photograph newborns when they are 7 days old, when they sleep more soundly and can maintain their curled positions.  However, sometime life gets in the way and maybe a client didn’t have time to book beforehand or didn’t know to book before the baby arrived and that can push things out a couple of weeks.  Don’t fret!  We can still photograph your wee one!  Give me a call anytime to book your newborn lifestyle session! Fur babies included 🙂

Three.  The number always seemed right to me.  So, the question still looms; do we go for number three?  I feel pressure more than ever as I am getting older and that biological clock is ticking!!

<Insert a visual of Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny here>

When I met with my client last May we talked a bit about this and she made a very good point.  A point I have reiterated over and over to those whom I’ve  spoken at length about this Third Child Dilemma  that I can’t seem to let go.  She said, “You will never regret having your child, but you may regret never trying.”  It rings very true to me and evidently she followed her own advice.  With two little girls keeping her busy, they went for it and now have another beautiful baby girl in their life.  I have photographed them a few times since I started my business back in 2007.  It has been a joy to see her kiddos grow.  I especially have a soft spot for her eldest and as you can see from the series of photographs I took of her because I just couldn’t help myself from doing otherwise.  Her sweet, beautiful little voice saying, “Ms. Stephanie?” slays me every single time.  Images are followed by a video I took during the session.  All shot on my Canon Mark III.

Enjoy!

xoxoxo

The snow is melting, the birds are chirping, the days are longer and that means spring is on it’s way.  Pretty soon flowers will be in bloom and before ya know it, outdoor sessions will be in full gear again.  It’s generally this time of year that I start thinking about mini sessions.  I have some ideas I am putting in to play and will be announcing those soon.  In the meantime, here is a look a one of last year’s mini sessions with fellow photographer Stacy Murphy and her kiddos.  This is one of 32 sessions I have yet to blog so if you haven’t seen your session pop up yet, I promise I will get to it soon!!  Enjoy! xoxo
