Last post continued….

This was my first shoot with Isabella in 2009.  Still one of my favorite shots til this day.  The moodiness and timeless feel–I don’t think I could ever tire of this image.  Lamby, her stuffed animal, joins us on every shoot but doesn’t always make an appearance. Three out of six sessions she joined Isabella for twirls and cuddles.

And back to our summer shoot in 2014, here are the final shots of the day that included some beautiful shots with her beautiful mama, too!

Published!  Here’s a first couple of pages from my feature in Click Magazine!

Lauren Rae - These are stunning. Simply gorgeous – love all of them, especially the mother-daughter portraits. Great work!

I’ve been photographing this little girl for 6 years.  She is an old soul; full of personality, imagination and expression.  My gut tells me she’s going to be a *big* star some day.  Each session gets better and better.  We wonder how can we out-do the last year but it all plays out as it should and each is special unto it’s own.  We planned this for months.  I wanted to do an UP theme but a) it’s been done time and time again b) I felt it might be too “young” of a theme for her and c) I had a way better idea.  I’ve wanted to do an Amelia Earhart inspired shoot for long time.  Whether it was for a commercial shoot or a portrait session with the right client I knew I needed to do it.  Mom was totally up for it, I found the perfect location and Isabella channeled her very best Amelia.  The expressions this child gives?  OMG.  She’s a joy to photograph and I think you’ll see from the photos below that she enjoyed herself as well.  I will follow up with the last collection of images from this shoot; different location, lighting, and the incorporation mommy and of her “Lamby” who has been with us on every shoot.  I am proud to say that 3 of these images were included in my feature with CLICK magazine!  If you’re a photographer and haven’t read CLICK yet, you must!  It’s my favorite photography magazine hands down.

Enjoy! xo

Maegan and I go way back to when Bellini Portraits was in it’s infancy stage.  It was 2008 and I was just a year full time in business when she contacted me to photograph her daughter’s 6 month photos.  I had made the transition from film to digital and at that point I didn’t even use Photoshop to edit images (gasp).  I shot what I shot and that was it.  It was the film mentality, I guess, because you shoot, you develop and you print.  That’s it.  Of course, these days you can shoot film and get digital copies and edit those files as you like but that’s wasn’t how we did “back then”.  Fast forward to 2015 and now I have photographed all 3 of her children from the time they were babies, as well as her gorgeous step-daughter–a Leelee Sobieski doppelganger.  She wasn’t there for this shoot but we are definitely planning a shoot with the entire gang this year.  We had a lot of fun this evening last August.  Although mom had her hands and (sore) arms full the entire time I am quite sure her heart was as well.

Another day at the beach!  I met Teddy and his family back in 2012.  When I first saw him?  OMG what a little nugget!  Such a cutie!  Fast forward to 2014 when I got to meet his little brother Wil.  The session didn’t go as planned–our beautiful early summer night felt more like late October.  The wind cut right through to their little bones so we opted to meet later in the summer when we’d be assured of a warmer night.  It turned out perfectly and the sorbet colored sky was the icing on the cake.

Whaddya waitin’ for?  You know you want a beach session, too!  If you’d like to book a children’s portrait session or family portraits this summer, please email me for details!

Here’s Teddy circa twenty twelve (I am realizing I never blogged that session!! ahhh!)

Carmen - Oh wow!! These are AMAZING!! I need the beach soon. It’s so cold here in Ohio. What beach was this taken at?

Gavin was one of my first *posed* newborn babies.  Back when the froggy and taco poses were the new thing, and propping their little chins up with their teeny tiny hands was the next best thing to sliced bread.  Do people still say that?  Sliced bread isn’t so new anymore, LOL. 🙂  I’m happy to say I’m not tied to those types of poses anymore.  What was once a thing of Brit & Carrie or Kelly & Tracey is now a ubiquitous trend that is as common as ombre hair and emojis.

Ultimately, I believe that to stand apart you need to be doing something different from everyone else.  While this industry continues to burst at it’s seams this might seem like an impossible task, I know.  Soooo, what do you do?  You put your blinders on and decide it’s not what everyone else is doing that will set you apart and propel you forward.  It’s looking inward and deciding what it is YOU love doing, what motivates and inspires YOU.  I’ve found that my true love was AND STILL IS a lifestyle approach to newborn shoots, and all shoots for that matter.   Mind you, that’s 8 years later and much longer if you include the years before I went professional full time.  Rusty vintage trucks, velvet chairs in fields and a smattering of MJC was what excited me but it’s feels like a thing of the long lost past.  Why the love for lifestyle?  Because each family is different; their home environment, their relationship, how they relate–this all translates into a dynamic and ultimately unique session each and every time.  This provides variation and diversity and keeps it fresh!

I digress…

Back to Gavin and his adorable sister Evelyn–eve-lyn, not evah-lyn 😉  Mom and I became friends on FB and after my newborn session with Evelyn a few years ago.  I watched that little cutie grow and OMG that blonde curly hair??  I was swooning and couldn’t wait to get her in front of the camera again!  I was excited that we got to shoot again last summer, this time on the beach.

The beach quickly became my go to location last summer and fall.  The sunsets, the pastel light and gorgeous water the water meeting the horizon–I would be forever hooked.  So on this first day of Spring, I say HURRY UP SUMMER!  Enjoy!
