Bellini Portraits » Bellini Portraits : Boston Newborn Photographer, Boston Children's Photographer, Boston Family Photographer, Boston Maternity Photographer

Happy Friday!  This week has flown by which I didn’t think it would considering it was the first week back to school after Christmas break.  There were some tears and tired kids but we made it through Monday and the rest of the days just hummed right along.

In my attempt to leave “no session left behind” 😉 I’ve found another from the fall 0f 2014 that got lost in the shuffle.  I’ve photographed this family since their oldest was a baby–she, like the one posted in Finley & Family, just has that special something where we really connected.  All three children are absolutely beautiful with such striking eyes and different personalities.  This is an example of a very quick shoot in very cold weather.  40 minutes tops and just simplicity at it’s best.  Just shows you that you don’t always need all the bells and whistles or a lot of time to create beautiful images.

Enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I’m back, I’m bloggin’ and I’m super excited about what the year ahead has in store.  I did not make any concrete resolutions this year.  I never seem to be able to stick to them anyway, no matter how feasible they may seem at first.

“Blog at least once per week.”

That was my first resolution for 2015.  I blogged once or twice a week until June–not too shabby considering how abysimal I was in 2013–but then, as all photographers know, summer and especially fall get so busy that it’s hard enough just to keep on top of editing and balancing life at home.

“Work out at least 3-4 times per week.”

That’s another from last year.  I did pretty well and managed to work out 5-6 times per week until the end of May.  I mean, come on.  We all know summer is just a huge distraction!

So, this year I’ve decided to just be more positive, to not beat myself up like I usually do and be the best me I can be.  In an attempt to get my blogging back under control I got a little geeky and created a spreadsheet to manage what sessions have been blogged, when, etc.  While doing this I realized that I never blogged this family portrait session from (gasp) 2014.  I don’t know how I could have done this.  You see, I completely fell in love with their little girl named Finley.  I know, I know….I have a soft spot for little girls.  Not having any of my own I can only dote on my 2 year old niece, also named Finley.  There was something SO familiar about her but couldn’t put my finger on it until my oldest son was watching me edit and exclaimed, “She has my face…she has MY FACE!!”  We both laughed as we realized how true this was.

So, 16 months later, here we go.  xo

Ali - Loved all these. You are amazing. Thanks for sharing!! Would love to do a snow shoot with Finley one of these days????

The evolution of a concept.

It’s been brewing for three, maybe four years.  It’s evolved in stages, from a flying bed care of Bert & Ernie on Sesame Street coming to fruition as my vintage wrought iron bed strung with lights in the shape of a sail.  Followed by a baby Christmas tree being pulled on a vintage wooden sled.  From a lone Christmas tree in a beautiful wooden dory in a harbor to finding a gorgeous handmade dory on Craigslist that I knew I HAD TO HAVE even just for this shoot.  This year my vision came to life.

I’m a procrastinator by nature.  This was the very last day I could shoot to enlist the help of my husband to bring the boat down to the lake we live next to.  He was leaving on his annual heli-skiing trip  and the kids had a half day at school which meant I had enough time to prep and get them dressed before the sun went down.  Knowing how incredibly picky they are with clothing that may or may not have been a total battle!!  Of course, with my luck, this day happened to be 30 degrees and 30mph winds.  Not ideal!   However, while I did wind up rushing through it and didn’t shoot until the fun fully dipped below the tree line because the kids were too cold, I am happy with the results.

That’s a wrap for 2015.   I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

And the magical version I envisioned…

Brooke - Love these! Amazing vision and perfectly executed. What great shots to have of your boys.

The topic was broached in a local mother’s Facebook group whether or not it was “worth it” to have professional maternity photos done.  The majority of the women responded YES!

And, I agree.

I can tell you from a personal perspective, I almost missed the boat.    When I was pregnant with my first, maternity photography wasn’t as prevalent as it is today.  It wasn’t THAT long ago but so much has happened in the industry since I started as a full time photographer almost 9 years ago.  I did the progression photos but nothing artistic or even with a decent top 10 4k Cameras.  When I was pregnant with my second son, I did think about hiring somebody but, as usual, my insecurity got the best of me and decided that at some point I would do self portraits instead.  It was a bright December morning, about 3 weeks from my due date.  The light was streaming into our master bedroom.  Knowing I would get a soft, hazy effect I loved I decided to quickly set up the tri-pod and do the portraits right then and there.  Four days later I went into labor and I think back that I was SO LUCKY that I had decided to do it that morning otherwise had I waited another week or two I would have missed that opportunity to capture such a beautiful and fleeting time in my life.  I loved being pregnant and really for the first time in my life really was comfortable with my body.  It’s something that I do miss and envy when I see these beautiful baby bellies, even more so knowing that our family is complete and no more babies are to come.

That being said, I will always ALWAYS encourage women to document this special time in your lives.  Let your own insecurity go.  Let the negativity go.  Let anything go that could potentially hold you back.

Do it.  I promise it will be worth it.

    Katelyn - Hello,
I am interested in doing some maternity photos. Do you have a studio? Or do you go to the home of your customers. I’m only 19 weeks so it will not be until later in the winter.

    Thank you

Sophie Taylor - During pregnancy it is very beautiful feeling when you present yourself for maternity photography. In this page all images are looking so adorable. Thank for sharing these.

I spent nearly two hours yesterday preparing a maternity post only to realize that I was way ahead of the game and already blogged waiting for baby vin (insert palm to face GIF here!).  Something tells me I need a better system in place!  What do you all you other fellow photographers use to keep everything organized in your work life?  Regardless, here is their newborn session with Baby Vin.  Such a sweet little nugget and what a head of hair!

I mentioned in my last newborn blog post that going forward I will solely be offering newborn lifestyle sessions.

What are “lifestyle” sessions?

These sessions take place in your home and focus on interaction between you and the baby.

Does the baby need to be under two weeks old?

Nope, lifestyle sessions can take place anytime between birth and 6 weeks.  No pressure!  We can shoot when you and baby are up for it!

Can I include my other child/children?

Absolutely!  There is nothing more precious than the interaction between siblings and the new baby!

How long does a lifestyle session take?

Unlike a studio-style session which can last up to 4 hours, which is exhausting for both the baby and parents, a lifestyle session is much more laid back because the baby does not need to be sleeping during the session.  We still take time for feedings and diaper changes.  Sessions last about 2 hours.

I love the bond I have with my babies when breastfeeding.  Can we incorporate this into the session?

Definitely!  Some mothers want to encapsulate this incredibly intimate and fleeting time with their little ones.  See how beautiful this mama’s breastfeeding  photos are below!

Do you still bring wraps and accessories?

Yes I do. I will come with beautiful wraps and layering throws as well as hats for boys and bonnets and headbands for girls.

If you are expecting and would like to learn more about booking your newborn session in the Boston, south shore or surrounding areas feel free to email/call for more information.

Without further ado….

Baby Vin.
