The past few nights the sunsets have been absolutely incredible.  It’s summer’s final act and we have all been in awe of it’s performance.  While I normally favor bright, airy and pastel swathed imagery, sometimes the warm, dark and moody images just hit the mark for me.  This cutie braved the muddy waters of the lake with frogs jumping by as we squished our way from the reeds out to the rocks for a little star catching.

Enjoy! xo

Matthew Caminiti - These photos are fantastic. The subject look at ease in their environments. I have some tips to create photos like these.

It’s that time–again.  We look at our calendars and wonder how it could possibly be August already.  It feels like I was just taking the last-day-of-school photos on the front porch.  Backpacks and old school papers, worn crayons and eraser-less pencils,  temporarily shuffled into the catch-all corner until I know what to do with it all.  I mean, what do you really do with them?  Hold on to the tattered craft paper with squares of mix and match pictures and words because their little hand writing is on it?  Of course.  But you have to be picky because you don’t want to become a hoarder. 😉  School starting is usually coupled with clients looking to do their annual family portraits.  Most of my clients have become beach portrait lovers but there are still those that really want to quintessential fall foliage portraits.

I photographed this family last October.  They were finally in their new home and I couldn’t wait to see the kids again.  I’ve photographed each of the children since they were newborn and many sessions in between.  The girls were super excited to show me their new bedrooms and show off how big their little brother had gotten as I hadn’t seen him since his newborn session in April.  We had a blast playing indoors, and out and finally–because you know I can’t resist a good tub shot–a bubble bath to end it all.

If you are in Boston, south shore, or surrounding areas and are interested in booking your family session please contact me at info@bellinipics for more information!

Enjoy! xo

Jess - These images literally brought tears to my eyes. Maybe it’s because I am pregnant and hormonal, maybe it’s because I’m a photographer who longs to take pictures like these, maybe it’s because I can feel the love this beautiful family has for each other. Well, it’s probably all three! Either way, you do extraordinary work! You managed to capture this family (and many others from what I can see) so naturally and it seems effortless. Thank you for inspiring me!

Sometimes the words flow seamlessly and other times I write and delete–never really finding the perfect rhythm of written word and thought.  My desire is always that my blog is not only a visual showcase of past sessions that will capture your attention even for a minute or two, but that what I write is something that resonates.  Something you can relate to, laugh at, sympathize with, and care enough to read til the very last punctuation mark.

Today I’m sad.  There is so much going on in the world that is disheartening, frightening and troubling.  I always try to turn my mind off from it all and remember the good.  There is still so much good!

Love.  Plain and simple.

When I look at the images I take of families like the one below I am filled with it–that feeling of love and just how lucky I am to be able to be the person to be there to capture these moments that are now suspended in time for them.

They are fleeting.  Don’t take today for granted. Everyday we have one less day with the people we love.  HOLD TIGHT to the ones you love!

To my dear friend who lost her daddy—sending you so much love and strength!!

Sarah Fecko - Such a gorgeous shoot! I love how it’s almost twilight but not super pastel-ey. This couple must be over the moon with these images!

I have had the pleasure of photographing this little girl since her newborn session.  There have been many sessions since then; each more beautiful and special.  With each passing month and year her personality has blossomed.  She is sweet, engaging and charismatic for her four young years.  I love that her mother takes every opportunity to chronicle Ella as well as their beautiful relationship together.

I try not to preach but to encourage my clients to be in shoots with their children.  That one day they will look back and be so happy they did.  And then I think about how it’s so hypocritical of me because I hate to have my picture taken.  I’m hyper-critical of myself and will find every flaw that I know my children would never ever see in me.

While we were anchored at Bassett’s Island last weekend my youngest looked at me in my cover up and said, “It’s ok Mommy, take it off.”  In the very sweetest and encouraging voice.  Then this article came back into mind but yet I still let my own silly insecurity let another time go by that I could have made my kids completely ecstatic.  To see mom jump off the boat, care free, to swim with them to shore.

But I digress…

This is really for all of us, insecure or not, to not let today go by for we are not promised tomorrow.  Capture these fleeting, joyous, trying, gorgeous moments in your life!  It is *my* joy create these treasures for you to enjoy for years to come!!

 XOXOXOX

I always think it when I see a family with two older boys and a baby girl.

“They got their girl.”

Now that’s not to say that they wanted or even tried for a girl.  Maybe a boy was their hope. Perhaps she was a beautiful surprise.  Whatever the case, a baby is a true blessing.  This little one is not only a blessing to her family but a fighter.  At the time of our session she was 10 months old and had already had one heart surgery.  Less than a year later and she’s had her second open heart surgery and doing amazingly well!  She is their little trooper and her big brothers’ real life super hero!

When you’re photographing a children’s portrait session or family session, I always say the kids dictate the shoot.  You need to feel them out and then work with each personality differently because they are each unique.  You might be able to tell that one of the boys wasn’t really feeling it that day.  He almost gave me  the “I am trying really hard not to smile at you” looks throughout–as if he might burst out laughing it he cracked! It was a gorgeous night and we shot until the moon was the only light hitting the beach  The last shot of mom and dad pretty much sums up how most parents feel after wrangling kids for a family session on the beach….ahhhh, that’s a wrap!
