As a Massachusetts portrait photographer, beach family sessions are some of my favorite to capture. The beautiful scenery and natural light make for timelss photographs that families will cherish for years to come. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph this family a few times now. She contacted me a few years ago before baby girl was born and finally when she was around 6 months old we had our first beach session together. They were an aboslute joy to photograph. She totally trusted my vision and let me run with the wardrobe coordination. It turned out beautifully and she was already planning this next session after seeing her gallery. And yes, we’ve already got one on the calendar for fall! So, if you’re looking for a photographer for your beach family session in Massachusetts this spring, summer or fall, you’ve come to the right place! Here’s what you need to know.

Location // Choosing the right location is key for any photoshoot. Massachusetts has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, with plenty of options to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a more secluded spot or a popular beach, there’s something for everyone. Keep in mind that during the summer months beaches tend to be crowded even at the time of our shoot. Also, if you choose a popular location your shoot will most likely not be the only one happening.   Timing // The best time for a beach family session is during “golden hour,” which is one hour prior to sunset. This is when the light is soft and warm, creating a beautiful golden glow that will create those gorgeous, sun drenched ethereal images. Keep in mind that our start time can be as late as 7:30pm when planning your session with little ones with early bedtimes.   Outfits // Choosing the right outfits can make or break your family’s photographs. For beach sessions, I recommend sticking to light, airy fabrics in neutral tones such as white, cream, and beige. Avoid loud prints or colors that clash with the natural environment. For a cohesive look, consider coordinating outfits among family members, without necessarily matching completely. I will work very closely with you to ensure every outfit is perfect and works beautifully together.   Posing // For my style, think more about taking an UN-POSED approach. I love to capture candid moments of families playing and enjoying themselves. Just relax and have fun – your family’s love and connection will shine through in the photographs.

In conclusion, byy choosing the right location, timing, outfits, and posing, you’ll be able to create stunning photographs that you’ll cherish for years to come. And if you’re looking for a Massachusetts portrait photographer for your family beach session, don’t hesitate to contact me for more info!
