seaside sirens

Holy loveliness!  As part of the retreat last June (see post below) I had a strong urge to incorporate some bridals.  I don’t shoot weddings but am in love with bridal portraits.  Abby Bielagus, from Ennis Inc, helped bring our vision of “modern beach bridal” to life.  These lovely models from Maggie, Inc. were a joy to work.  It was freezing in Cape Cod.  June and absolutely fuh-fuh-freezing.  Yet being the true professionals that they are, they kept their smizes going!  For those who are unfamiliar with the terms “smize”, it means to smile with your eyes.  Practice.  It really makes a difference!  Enjoy!  xoxo

sisterhood

We laugh.  We kvetch.  We seek advice, both personal and work related.  We crack jokes and laugh some more.  Share ideas, fears, and insecurities.  And through it all we have become friends.   It’s a safe haven.  A place where we feel connected, understood and loved.  I am referring to a small group of photographer girlfriends, some whom I’ve met in person and some I only know from online.  We created a place in a private FB group where we can “meet” and feel safe to express ourselves, to be girly, to get creative, to laugh, to share frustrations–a place where we really understand one another as we are in the same industry all the while being moms and trying our best to BE the best at it all.  Friendships have  been forged and I feel so lucky to have met them all.  Last year a handful of us met in Cape Cod for a retreat.  A time for us to try some new things, flex our creative muscles, talk shop, cook together and just have a good time.  Since everyone was coming from out of state, I loaded up my SUV with everything I thought would work for this beach shoot.  What’s funny is everything I buy, props and wardrobe, is usually one piece at a time, but then when everything is gathered together, it somehow comes together in a fantastical sort of way.  Socks from one day match a random dress I found at Urban Outfitters and a hat from TJ Maxx, or a top from The Measure paired with a vintage camera and old ladder just work beautifully together.  It’s fun pretending I am part stylist;-)  These sisters that were our models on day two were nothing short of amazing.  So beautiful and so fun to dress.  They toughed out the unseasonably brisk June day we had and let us shoot to our hearts’ desire.  How lucky they are to have each other as a sister’s bond is like no other.  And to my wonderfully talented, strong, smart, funny and fabulous girlfriends–thank you for the sisterhood I feel with you all!

It’s that time of year when the grass is getting long at my favorite fields (insert happy dancing smiley here).  I love how it blows in the wind and creates a painterly effect in my images when I shoot wide open.  Soon, I will have my very own WILDFLOWER field which I am SO excited about!  Hopefully by the end of next month it will be blooming and I can take my clients there as well.  This field session was in June of 2011 and I never blogged it.  It wasn’t intentional because how could I not want to blog this little cutie?  Mom gave me a gentle reminder on Facebook and as promised, he is your little man’s blog post!  Enjoy!  xo

Whoah.  I’m not sure how it happened but I never blogged this fashion shoot for The Measure!  Shot back in November 2011 for the Spring/Summer 2012 line, it’s as cute as can be!  And, at the end of June I will finally be able to share the fall line that I shot in March.  For now, here’s Spring!

sweet elise

I was recently contacted my a mother of a 3 week old baby girl.  She didn’t realize that newborn sessions are best booked before the baby is born and that the optimal time to photograph newborns is between 5-10 days old.  I explained that to the lovely woman on the other end of the phone line but she knew she really wanted to capture her daughter during this precious fleeting time, despite that I wouldn’t be able to get to see her for two more weeks due to my busy schedule.  I also explained to her, as I would all other inquiring parents, at 5 weeks old the baby would not likely be molded into some of the curled and propped positions you may have seen here or on other photographer’s sites.  It didn’t matter to her and that was OK by me.  In fact,  she really wanted shots of the baby awake–something I am hearing more and more.  Well, it’s no wonder why she wanted to see her baby girl’s eyes!!  They are a stunning blue, beautiful and round!  The rooms that I shot in all had the most incredible curved windows towards the front of the home.  All the way up to the master with a turret and light to die for.  These windows created the most amazing effect in her eyes.  Catch lights times 10!  It was an amazing session and I am so excited to share with you the images from our morning together.  And when the first click of the day is a smile, you know it’s gonna be a good one.  Enjoy!

She sleeps…..

monet - June 5, 2012 - 3:41 pm
