jackson : boston newborn portraits

I’ve been a little MIA as I’ve sort of mandated some time off for my myself this summer.  It’s been wonderful and relaxing spending time by the beach.  However, my urge to create is ever present and I am always anxious to get back to work. Here is a session with 7 day old Jackson shot back in May–such a beautiful baby boy and his momma as pretty as can be.  We did a maternity session last year for her first and this makes her boys just 15 months apart.  I’m exhausted just thinking about wrangling two little ones so close in age. Kudos and much respect for those that do it!  Enjoy!

second time around

Hi all! I have been taking a nice break with the family for the 4th so I have been a little MIA from my blog and Facebook. So to keep it alive I wanted to share with you again my session last year with photographer Heidi Hope from RI shot July 2011. I thought it would be fun to share what I was up to a year ago! I have three sessions with other fab photographers coming up in August and September! In the meantime…..have a fabulous weekend!

“I’m not sure the feeling will ever change. The feeling when another photographer contacts you to take their family portraits (gulp). If you follow my blog you may remember my post last October when Elise Donoghue asked me to photograph her family. I was excited and a nervous wreck all balled into one. But at the end of the day it was an amazing experience and I walked away from it feeling empowered and thrilled to know how happy I had made her. Tears of joy from any client is ALWAYS a good thing!! Double bonus: we have become great friends! When Heidi contacted me in December about photographing her family I had the same feeling but this time I knew that the nervous feeling was actually a good thing. It keeps you in check and on your toes. When you lose those butterflies I think you can become complacent and your work can become a bit lack lustre. I had an idea that I’d been wanting to implement for some time. A ripped out page from one of my old Cookie magazines–remember that one, so good, and so sad it’s gone–had sat quietly in a folder of other inspirational images for a few years. It was a model with her son in a Valentino dress; red, diaphanous, long and beautiful. Her little boy was under the many layers and he peeked he head from one of the drapey, crepe-like sheets of red. I knew I wanted to try this with Heidi and her 3 year old daughter. And so began the hunt for the perfect dress. Nothing was coming up quite like the Valentino number (yeah, go figure) but I did happen upon something even more adorable on Etsy. Luckily for us it was the right size, Heidi loved it, and she snagged it up. We started in one of my favorite fields at sunset for some beautiful family shots and then zoomed down to the Cape for the whimsical dress shots. It was an amazing experience! Heidi, it was such a pleasure getting to know you and you gorgeous family and lucky for me I feel I’ve made yet another friend who just happens to be another portrait photographer like myself. Enjoy!! xoxoxo”

OMG!!!!! How beautiful are these!?! I didn’t see them the first time around. Kinda obsessed with her dress in the second set and your use of the light with it. You’re a genius. SIGH.

heidi - July 6, 2012 - 4:07 pm

I love these even more today! G looks so young in all of them.. *sigh*. They turn into big kids so fast, don’t they?! Thank you again for such beautiful portraits. I think we’ll have to do it again when G #2 is a little bigger! xoxo

Wow. Wow. WOW!!! Absolutely gorgeous, and it’s always so nice to see the photographer behind the art. You did an incredible job, and I’m sure she’s overjoyed with the portraits.

little pink houses

I am SO excited that I can finally share the images from my shoot for The Measure’s Fall 2012 line, “Little Pink Houses”, shot back in March.  I also created a behind the scenes video of the shoot which is so fun because you can really see the personalities behind my little models.  A huge thanks to stylist Gary Croteau for bringing my vision to life with incredible hair styles.  Without further ado………

I must be going bananas, but I goggle map Bridgewater, MA and you are only 790 miles away, so I can totally plan a roadtrip destination family session with my favorite photographer ever, right? Of course, by the time I get there I will have no money left and my kids will be going nuts. Shoot. ;)

ella

Meet Ella.  Thirteen days old and quite possibly the most alert newborn I have photographed to date!  She followed me with her eyes with every move I made…it was really remarkable!  This is a great example of an “environmental” newborn shoot that focused less on the posed beanbag shots and more about interaction with family and incorporating home elements as well.  Enjoy! xo

and out for a little fresh air…..

seaside sirens

Holy loveliness!  As part of the retreat last June (see post below) I had a strong urge to incorporate some bridals.  I don’t shoot weddings but am in love with bridal portraits.  Abby Bielagus, from Ennis Inc, helped bring our vision of “modern beach bridal” to life.  These lovely models from Maggie, Inc. were a joy to work.  It was freezing in Cape Cod.  June and absolutely fuh-fuh-freezing.  Yet being the true professionals that they are, they kept their smizes going!  For those who are unfamiliar with the terms “smize”, it means to smile with your eyes.  Practice.  It really makes a difference!  Enjoy!  xoxo
