Session three with my bambino! I must say that it’s pretty convenient having a newborn at my disposal so whenever the mood strikes I can break out the 5D and start snapping away. These shots are from Saturday when he turned 3 weeks old. I can’t believe how fast time flies and how big he is getting. Normally I do not do newborn sessions if a baby is older than 14 days old. They lose their flexibility, ability to stay in curled positions, sleep less soundly and sometimes we can run into problems with baby acne. This little guy had such a bad case of acne for almost two solid weeks but by the time I did this session it was almost all cleared up. Thanks to a little help from my friend Photoshop, you would never know! I have to give credit for the banana leaf shot to my husband. He has been literally begging me since he was born to use one of the leaves from our banana tree in some way for a shot. It didn’t roll up like we both had planned so I improvised and just wrapped it up around him. Let me know what you think, leave a comment so we can make him feel good

This little guy, Max, came into the world 9 days ago–5 days earlier than expected. His mom tells me he has his nights and days mixed up which is pretty typical for newborns. I think back and now I realize how lucky I was with my first. He was a fabulous sleeper. He seemed to sleep all day and even after the multiple night feedings he was right back to bed! Let’s see what #2 has in store for me this December! Apparently Max decided to sleep more than usual last night despite his momma’s attempt to keep him somewhat awake so that he slept, for sure, for our session. Well…..that didn’t happen! Even at only 9 days he didn’t want to sleep much at all, only a few winks here and there. After about 4 1/2 hours I think we were all “max’d” out and decided that it was time to really let the little guy sleep and get this new mom some rest as well. He slept the entire afternoon after I left, right?! Enjoy!!

My little client today just turned 4 weeks. It’s a really tough age for a newborn shoot which is why I recommend booking your newborn session while your still pregnant. I really prefer to shoot my newbies between “fresh out of the oven” to 10 days old. Within this time period they keep their soft-as-bread-dough, moldable, curled little selves. The older they get the more awake and alert they become and I can really only get those posed newborn shots when your little one is out like a light! Regardless, this (totally svelte) momma really wanted to at least try–and that we did. 4 hours later, with fleeting moments of slumber, we managed a few backdrop changes, a couple of hats and one feeding in between. Though “the” pose (the propped shot) eluded us, I think we got some beautiful shots of this little handsome guy.

What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice and everything nice, of course! This is Jamie & Chloe–part of the 3% of naturally occurring fraternal twins…I just looked it up . What a surprise for Mom & Dad! They were born 3 weeks early and turned 5 weeks today. So does that really just make ‘em 2 weeks old?! ha. They sure showed their different personalities today–Jamie, the bigger of the twins, was much more relaxed and just went with the flow. Chloe, on the other hand, was willful! It’s fun to see that even at this tender age they are very different people. Something amazing happened when I postitioned them together, Chloe up against Jamie’s back. I took Chloe’s hand and wrapped it around her sister’s shoulder and took Jamie’s hand and brought it towards Chloe’s. Their hands met each other, almost searching for one another, and then they both smiled at different times. Amazing. Here are some shots from today.
