Magical. It’s what comes to mind when you say her name. Barb Uil, aka Jinky, is a world renowned children’s photographer from “down undah”. If you are a kids portrait photographer, my hunch is that you are pretty well acquainted with her work. If you aren’t, then I would encourage you to head on over and check out her jaw-droppingly gorgeous work. I was lucky enough to attend one of her state-side workshops in the summer of 2010 and it was such a great experience–inspiration abounded! She is a dear, down to earth and very open person. If you’ve contemplated taking one of her workshops I would highly recommend it. Fast forward to a couple of months ago when Barb asked me, yes ME, to be a contributor in her brand new e-book, “For The Love”. I was surprised, humbled and deeply honored that I was one of three photographers that would share their experiences for this project. The two other talented lady photo contributors are Stephanie Beaty of Lifeography and Kristen Cook of Kristen Cook Photography. This e-book is for professionals, aspiring photographers or even just moms and dads that are looking to stay inspired. My segment is all about photographing your family on holiday. Here’s a synopsis:

“A personal and inspirational guide and adventure into photographing your family and inviting time to breathe, time to love, and time to embrace what you have. An invitation to explore your creativity, whilst also recording the moments that your heart tells you that you must.

Nothing can instantly lift your mood like a sunny day, am I right? Throw in a smiley baby and life’s pretty darn good. Add a dash of spring time blooms and, well, you’re pretty much over the moon. I had a session today with 3 month old Mariella. She responded so well to me! Makes me feel that, heck ya, I’ve really earned the “Baby Whisperer” title!!! I got lots of smiles and tons of fun expressions. I loved that mom wanted to include grandma’s ring, that being Mariella’s GREAT GRANDMA! It became important for me to try to incorporate this heirloom somehow in today’s shoot. Mom was regretful that she never had newborn photos done of Mariella as she just loves the womb-like photos and the macro shots of all the bits and pieces, ‘specially the lashes so, ahem, I incorporated those for her as well Enjoy!!!! You were a pleasure to work with today! xoxo

I’m really on my game today. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was up at 5am (again!), showered and ready before 6am and I’ve just stayed on the ball for the duration. Dinner is prepared and it’s only 4:49pm. Scary. I even packaged up 8 orders only to get to the post office and realize it was closed for Veteran’s Day. Agh! On top of all that, I’m already posting this morning’s session with sweet Maureen. I have photographed this little beauty 3 years in a row. It’s fun to see her grow and come out of her sometimes shy shell. Today she showed her true three-year-old-self. Ya know the one that knows exactly what she wants and calls all the shots? Yeah, that one We had fun even if it did take some bribing with a giant whirly pop! Enjoy!! xoxo

This sweet little guy and I met last year when was just 3 months old and I was 1 month away from giving birth. I planned on working right up until my son was born and I practically did when he decided to surprise us 16 days early! Seems like so long ago but at the same time this past year has just flown by. So, we met again today–what an absolutely gorgeous October day! 85 degree weather is oddly out of place in New England this far into fall but I am certainly not complaining. As soon as I got to the field the temperature dropped 10 degrees, the wind started whipping and the ominous clouds rolled in. I prayed the sky wouldn’t open up on us and thankfully it didn’t. My beautiful bunting took a beating hanging in the tree but it was all worth it for fab shoot with divine little Devin. Thanks for making the long drive from the Cape. Enjoy!! xoxo
