It’s SUPERBOWL SUNDAY! I’m not normally a big sports fan but I am today! Not only is a great day to be rooting for our hometown team, the New England Patriots, it’s gonna be a fun filled day spent with great friends and family. On top of that I have a line up of yummy appetizers that I wanted to share with you! Loads of other yummies coming via said family & friends. I will be sure to photograph and share before they are all gone! What are you making today?

the making of a holiday card

Finally!! It’s two days before Christmas, the cards have all been received and now I can share with you our family holiday card for 2011! It was a bit of a workout. The first two minutes were a breeze, the middle 40 were total frustration (gotta love it when photographers kids don’t cooperate) and then the last 5 minutes I got the shots that I wanted. Sigh. I did a shoot a couple of weeks before but it wasn’t my original concept and I just couldn’t commit to it. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for two years so I went with my gut, bought some old sleds and on a gorgeous evening my husband and I took the kids and the pooch to the location. I’m really happy with the outcome, I just wish I had some more of my youngest. He wasn’t really into it plust he kept getting the giant candy cane stuck in his mouth and then crying and tears were plentiful. So here it is! Happy, happy holidays to you all! xoxo

Magical. It’s what comes to mind when you say her name. Barb Uil, aka Jinky, is a world renowned children’s photographer from “down undah”. If you are a kids portrait photographer, my hunch is that you are pretty well acquainted with her work. If you aren’t, then I would encourage you to head on over and check out her jaw-droppingly gorgeous work. I was lucky enough to attend one of her state-side workshops in the summer of 2010 and it was such a great experience–inspiration abounded! She is a dear, down to earth and very open person. If you’ve contemplated taking one of her workshops I would highly recommend it. Fast forward to a couple of months ago when Barb asked me, yes ME, to be a contributor in her brand new e-book, “For The Love”. I was surprised, humbled and deeply honored that I was one of three photographers that would share their experiences for this project. The two other talented lady photo contributors are Stephanie Beaty of Lifeography and Kristen Cook of Kristen Cook Photography. This e-book is for professionals, aspiring photographers or even just moms and dads that are looking to stay inspired. My segment is all about photographing your family on holiday. Here’s a synopsis:

It’s been a hell of a week. Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on our yard and left us without power for 4 days. The first day is the hardest. No computer, no internet, no lights or hot water. You are forced into a getting-back-to-basics mind frame. Early to bed, maybe even catching up on a book you’ve neglected. It forced me to completely unplug from my business which is never an easy thing to do. Even when I’m “not-working” and with my kids my mind is constantly going to back to my t0-do list of the endless things that can and need to be done. It’s a constant. But for a few days I felt like what it would be like if I could just focus on my kids. There was less frustration, less fighting, because mommy was fully present. It’s a tough balance and sometimes it can feel like you’re totally failing even though everyone always asks, “How do you do it all?” Well, sometimes it can wear on you. Mentally and emotionally. Sometimes you just need a break from everything and everyone. In July I found myself feeling this way so I escaped back home to spend some time reconnecting with my kids and getting some good ol’ Vermont and NH summer air in my lungs. It was just what the doctor ordered. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! xoxo
